So much news out this morning. First Starbucks announces that they are coming out with a flavor-bud form of their coffee. Instant Starbucks? If I wanted instant I’d drink Maxwell House. I don’t go to Starbucks just for the coffee. I go for the whipped cream.
And dang it all to heck if I didn’t mess up on saving that chicken a month too early. North Carolina just passed a law that allows people to keep up to 10 chickens in the city limits. They already have a law that allows beehives in city limits. You might keep that in mind next time someone invites you over for a cook-out. They claim it’s cheaper and healthier for families to keep chickens. Not necessarily healthier for the chickens, mind you. But gosh, had I known that I could have kept Lucky Earl right here at Pinehurst No. 2 until I was ready to head back to Oregon. I’m sure Sister Tater wouldn’t have minded holding Lucky in her lap as we truck across country.
I am headed into the bend for wrapping up a draft of Doublewide. I loved this conversation with Vernon, one of the fellows I met on Sunday.
Vernon: What are you writing?
Me: A book.
Vernon: What’s the name of it?
Me: Will Jesus Buy Me a Doublewide?
Vernon, leaning in and whispering: Tell Jesus to buy you two and you can give one to ol’ Vernon.
