I was reading Todd Johnson’s debut novel, The Sweet By and By, this week. His style is very similar to that of Michael Morris. The book follows the relationships between five women. The setting is an old folks home. I know that’s an archaic term for assisted living facilities but I like it.
There’s a scene in the book where two of the women are sitting around, gluing hearts. And the recreation director gives them boxes of those candy hearts. Says one woman to herself, how come they don’t make these candies with useful messages like, “Massage my feet.”
I loved that.
I think we all ought to write the Sweetheart Company and make our own suggested Valentines.
MASSAGE MY FEET is a good one.
WAX MY TRUCK would work.
BE MY MR CLEAN
DO THE GARAGE

I am spending Valentines Day writing about people’s relationships with God & money.
But I did come across this tidbit about Facebook & Friendship over at my buddy Scot McKnight’s blog. What’s your thoughts?
