There was a lot of hoopla yesterday in the news about those profane bonuses that Wall Street CEOs paid themselves in 2008. Even President Obama called it shameless. What is even more jarring is that 40 percent of those folks didn’t think they were paid enough.
It’s easy enough to point to Wall Street as the heart of darkness of this Greed Generation. But this isn’t just about money.
You have all heard about the woman who gave birth to 8 babies this week, right?
Now we learn that this “young mother” happens to have six other children.
Doctors implanted the embryos (for a hefty fee, you can be sure). Later doctors suggested the mother selectively abort some of the babies but that went against her value system.
This, I think, is a classic example of the same sort of greed run amuck that we are seeing on Wall Street — a relentless hungering for that which you already have.
I suspect pro-lifers will tout this woman at the modern-day Madonna but the bottom line is that her actions are as shameful as those whoremongers on Wall Street.
And those doctors who implanted those embryos ought to be forced to spend a year working with orphans in Sudan or the Ukraine.
